"Algebra in the Real World" supplies everything you need to deliver dozens of lessons that show students the fascinating real-world value of this subject.

  • Two video tapes containing 16 algebra-related “microdocumentaries” drawn from The Futures Channel’s award-winning archive

  • A CD-ROM containing these video clips in digital format for computer display, as well as over 40 classroom projects that are linked to algebra curriculum topics and support algebra standards.

  • A print guide that includes: full descriptions of each microdocumentary, as well as suggested lesson activities for each video; a guide to classroom use of this resource; detailed suggestions for planning and delivering staff development workshops using the kit and a complete index organized by topic.

There are several ways to use the resources provided in "Algebra in the Real World:"

  1. Video tapes and print guide: Use the print guide to find a video that relates to your algebra topic. The guide provides specific  examples that you can use in your class discussion.

  2. Video tapes and CD-ROM: Use the CD-ROM to instantly locate relevant video clips and appropriate skill sets, real world problems and investigations. Print handouts and instructions directly from the CD-ROM. Use the video tapes to present selected video clips on your TV monitor.

  3. CD-ROM: Individual students or small groups can use the CD-ROM to view videos on the computer, and then answer questions or do activities that you select.
